Encinitas Lions Club Annual Surf Event for the Visually Impaired

In partnership with the San Diego Surfing Academy, Swami's surf Club the Encinitas Lions Club hosts a day at the beach for the sight impaired from around San Diego County. Surfers from the Swami's Surf Club, the San Diego Surfing Academy and community surfers help our guests learn to surf or help hone their existing surf skills while the Lions Club  bar-b-ques and pampers the participants. One experienced surfer, Jerry, hadn't been in the water since he lost his eyesight ten years ago after being shot as an innocent bystander in a robbery.  Another, Aurora, started surfing by attending our surf day five years ago and now stands and rides the wave in. Others just enjoy the white wash rolling over their feet for the first time.

It is a blast for all involved and allows those in our community who need assist to experience the delight of sponge boarding or surfing.  Volunteers are welcomed and appreciated!

This is a perfect event for a corporate sponsor to participate in a unique activity for the disabled community and to give back to the community at the same time.  This event draws local press and goodwill. 

Even though the event is staffed with volunteers we still need community support in the following areas:

• $500.00 for food and drinks
• product to hand out i.e. visors, hats, sunscreen etc.
• awards for best surfer and best first timer
